Owe Dam: The Unknown Beauty of Navi Mumbai

Ever craved for a place where sheer silence of nature is all that surrounds you?

A place so peaceful and devoid of human intervention, is all that you ask for? This place is where you should be.

Owe Dam

Lockdown has been around the corner is extremely difficult for the people who all staying indoors and for all those avid travellers who are constantly nauseated by the fact that they cannot step out.

The feeling of being caged is hard and makes us lethargic but we humans are constantly on the go. The travel-lovers will always find some or the other way to go out even if that means by watching travel videos and travel films. But trust me, this shall pass too!

Getting back, to this aesthetically pleasing location. This place is near Kharghar in Navi Mumbai. The most surprising fact about this place is that not many people know about this place.

Not even Navi Mumbaikars!

Owe Dam

The dam is quite remotely located and hence makes it almost difficult for the people to notice until and unless they actually go looking for it. Only a few rare-air humans, who actually put in efforts to search for such vaguely appealing locations might know about this place. But don’t worry, we have researched all of it, and are providing you with an entire backpacker’s guide of Owe Dam!

How to get there?

Owe Dam is as far you think as it’s close to the Mumbai Highway.

There are basically two means to get here. Either you come here by train or by a private vehicle.

Trains: Kharghar Station is extremely close to the Dam. It’s about 6.6 KM away from this beauty. Once you get down at the station, move out of the station to see a Metro Bridge (after crossing the Highway) and below that bridge, you will see many Cabs that can take you the dam for about 25-30 Rs. Per head.

The cabs then drop you to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk and then at almost a walking distance of about 15-20 minutes you will reach your destination.

Two-wheelers / Four wheelers: Two-wheelers can follow the same route straight up to the dam but the four-wheelers have to be parked near the village area and then go walking up till the dam which takes about 20-25 minutes or so.

Cyclists – For any cyclists, of Mumbai, it might be a bit cumbersome to trudge the entire path all the way from Mumbai.

The Unexplored & Untouched Delight

Owe Dam

As they say “No interaction is sometimes the best interaction”, it falls true for this place. You will realize the serenity of this place as you grow closer to this place.

The pathway to the dam is guarded by many small streams and enormous giant rocks. The muddy path becomes puddled with water during monsoons making it difficult not only to ride over but also to walk upon.

As you reach the place you will see a huge lake bounded by the huge Owe Dam. Not so huge though, but still.

Owe Dam

The lake water is clean and the lake is maintained well by the villagers as it is the only source of drinking water for the villages nearby.

Since it's completely rests aloof from all the gruesome industrialization, it is silent and chilled out here. The place is so peaceful that you will want to visit it again.

Moreover bounded by mountains and hills on almost all the sides, the feels get to another level when you visit the place at sunrise. Heaven for sure!

What you should know?

Owe Dam

The way to the dam turns into a ground full of mud and puddles in rains and makes it truly difficult for any two-wheeler to ride upon. The walk gets tougher during the pour.

It’s a humble request that this place is a source of drinking water for the villages nearby, so please keep this area clean.

Owe Dam

Owe Dam, is truly a delight and is meant for people who love the concept of ‘walk into the wilderness’. The feeling of stillness and calm that cloud our mind while admiring this scenic beauty is worth the efforts and time you might put in getting here.
