Pehlar Lake – Unexplored Nature’s Beauty

Pehlar Lake

A weekend ride to an unforgettably appealing lake just a few miles away from Mumbai!

Mumbaikars are always looking for some weekend getaways. We want to go on a long ride but also want the place to be close to our houses.

Pehlar Lake is a small lake formed by a dam which is located in Nalasopara East near the Tungareshwar Fort. Yesss! This beauty is located this close to our places.

This ‘Heart-shaped’ lake is completely bounded by greenery on all sides! The feeling of being ‘into the arms of nature’ falls true for this place. The walk to the lake is extremely rugged and tiresome as it consists of many steps. But the efforts are paid off when you get to visualize this serene place.

The stunning ambience coupled with sounds of waterfalls and birds add to the stillness of this gorgeous scene.

How to get there?

As mentioned earlier, it is extremely close to Mumbai city and people can enjoy their weekend ride.

Many of us would’ve even passed this lake but wouldn’t know about didn’t even visit it.

Railways: The Lake is accessible from Nalasopara Station that is about 9.2 KM away. While Vasai and Virar stations are about 12 and 13 KM away respectively.

Bus: Nearest Bus stop is Pehlar Umbr Bus stop so you can check for buses that may drop you to or near this locality.

Car / Bikes / Cycles: It is at a distance of about 53 KM from Mumbai, and will take almost 2 hours to reach the lake. So plan your trip accordingly.

The road from the highway up to the lake or the village, to be precise, is not a proper concrete road, so trudging it would be a bit tedious and tough. It can be an off-roading experience for many of you!

Once you reach the village, you will have to park your vehicle a few miles away from the waterbody. Moreover, you will have to walk up to the dam.

There are steps leading to the dam and once you reach the dam behind it lies the beautiful Pehlar Lake.

Serenity at its best!

Trust me, it will be one of the best experiences of your life and you would definitely visit this place again. It is so silent that you won’t believe that this place is actually around civilization.

Pehlar Lake

The absolute feeling of solitude helps you connect with nature!

You’re never alone when you are connected to nature!

The localites have paved a way around the periphery of the lake for the people/tourists to walk, it actually encircles the entire heart-shaped lake! The walk is immensely mesmerizing, especially during the sunsets and sunrises. The water ripples up with the rays of sunshine and makes it a delight for any person taking a walk around the periphery of this beauty.

The famous Tungareshwar Fort is also visible from the lake bed. It is yet another blog post!

During monsoons, when the lake gets over-flooded, the iron gates of the dam open up and the excess falls down the dam making it look like a waterfall, a much powerful waterfall rather. The water keeps on flowing down the dam all year round though, but the immense force of water is felt during monsoons majorly.

The water then tickles down over huge boulders and rocks in the form a stream. The localites fish in this stream, though.

But just an hour here can actually fill you up with immense happiness and feelings of goodness. The wonderful experience will touch your soul for sure.

What you should know?

As already stated the road to the dam from the main road is quite not good. The road is a perfect off-roading experience for a newbie rider/driver.

The water of the dam/lake is used by the villagers for drinking purposes so please don’t litter around and spoil the water in any way.

The dam gets deep during rains and the flow of waterfall is intensely hitting can be risky for anyone trying to pose underneath, so be careful.

The stream has a rocky bed so pay utmost attention to the rocks you are steeping on as one wrong step and you may develop leg cramps or sprains.

Overall, Pehlar Dam is a delight for all those people who want to enjoy a Sunday ride or a one-day weekend getaway. It’s truly surprising to see this jaw-dropping beauty amidst the city’s busy skylines. The trip is worth all the efforts and your time.
