Everyone gets curious when they hear the words mysterious or haunted, but do you know that there are some places which can send chills up your spine, do you still dare to visit them, alone?


Mumbai is a city which is constantly on the run and imaging places to be devoid of population even at night is an extremely rare sight but yes, there are some places where people won’t go even in the morning!




Here’s a list of few most haunted places of Mumbai and their real stories:

Grand Paradi Tower


It is a high rise tower that is located exactly in the centre of the city. Because of its location, it is hard to believe that it is haunted but it surely is. It is the most haunted place of Mumbai though. It is believed that the 8th floor of this building is the place where some strange events have occurred. A couple had committed suicide by jumping off from that floor. Moreover, the family that bought this apartment did all sorts of ceremonies to stop all of the hauntings from occurring, and to their fortune, it did stop but still, the tower remains a place where people are afraid to go even today.

Aarey Colony


It was built in 1949 & is extremely famous for its beautiful gardens and lakes. Aarey Colony is one of the busiest roads in the city. It is situated in the suburban part of the city. Moreover, the early risers often flock around the place in the morning for a refreshing walk or a quick run through the woods. But as soon as, the clock turns 12, people tend to avoid this place as there are many cases of hauntings & sightings of people been reported.  At night, there are strange noises heard and also if you’re travelling in a car or an auto or even in a taxi, there are cases of people encountering a lady in a white dress asking for lift. It is not a place to be at night time!

Madh Island Road


Anyone who has been to Madh Island knows how beautiful the road is, that takes you to Madh but localites have some different story to tell altogether. People who live near Madh don’t tend to traverse that path, especially at night as they claim the road to be haunted! According to the people, a long time ago a bride who was recently married was killed on the sides of that road and ever since the spirit is haunting that place. Many accidents take place on that road and it is believed that the majority of the accidents are the curse of that spirit.

Ram Sakit Building


It is much like any other normal building of the city but the people living here are not happy about the things that happen around the place at night. Located in Mahim, which has to be one of the most haunted parts of the city, this building has a brief history of fright. It is so believed that there was a 50-year-old lady who fell into a well that is sealed in the compound and since then the spirit is occasionally seen on the full moon night and vanishes every morning.

Sanjay Gandhi National Park



A national park that is so full of mysteries has to be on the list. It is home to many wild animals and birds. Any and everyone who wants to witness the nature’s beauty and unbelievable diversity of the city must visit this place. Besides the daunting animal noises, the paranormal activities of this place are interesting too! One of the most famous hauntings of this place is of a lady who is seen asking for directions from people enjoying their evening walks or runs. The lady then is seen eagerly following them and blocking their ways even further into the park. Some of these stories, even the forest guards agree to.

Mukesh Mills



Mukesh Mills is the first thing that comes to our minds when we hear the word ‘haunted’. It is a place that tickles our mystery bone and will give one hell of a spine chilling experience if you visit it alone at night! A place that was once used for shooting horror films and Television serials, is now a place completely deserted! The blockbuster film Om Shanti Om was shot in here. It was built by East India Company in 1870 and then a massive fire turned down the entire structure into ashes. The mills were then used for shootings. The most famous incident that took everyone by surprise was when Kamya Punjabi, a famous actress of Bollywood was shooting for a film in Mukesh Mills started talking in a male’s voice. She angrily exclaimed the crew and the cast to empty the place in a bold and a manly voice. Since then, no films are being shot there and it remains to be the most mysterious place till date.

IC Colony


The colony of Borivali, that is believed to be famous for its hauntings has an elaborate history of many hauntings and sighting reports. The most astonishing of them all is about a playground that is now sealed by the localites because of the horrors that it holds. It is believed that there was a gardener who loved his plants and ground so much that he committed suicide to prevent his owner from selling the plot. It is since then that the hauntings started and, people now refrain themselves from even going close to the plot.

Tower of Silence


One of the most intriguing places on this list is the tower of silence. It is a ‘crematoria of the Parsis’ located in Malabar Hills. Parsis believe that instead of burying or burning the dead, it is better to give off the remains of the dead to the wild scavengers! The dead people are usually placed in the tower of silence for them to be eaten by the eagles & vultures. Nobody goes even miles close to this place at night. It is because people say that they have heard screams and cries coming out of the tower of silence especially around midnight.

Taj Mahal Hotel


Surprised aren’t you, to see such a prosperous hotel on this list. But it’s true, the hotel has reported sightings of a spirit. Though the spirit has not done any harm to guests or the staff. It is said that the builders WA Chambers committed suicide as the map that they built for the hotel turned out to be wrong and the whole of their project would be demolished. Since then the souls are haunting the hotel and are seen by many staff.

Bombay High Court


One of the funniest mysterious you must have encountered. It is said that there’s a soul in the Bombay High Court that helps to solve cases. Yes! As funny as it seems, some many senior judges and lawyers have strongly supported this fact. Much hysterical as it sounds, it is genuinely a huge mystery as to if these stories stand true?

Asiatic Library


One of the largest library in the country. It has an amazing collection of books across all genres. But some stories are written not in the books. It’s believed that the library is haunted by the souls of the Britishers. The truth behind this story is still not clear.

D’Souza Chawl


Here’s to the most haunted place of Bombay. The people emptied the entire locality after the sightings started happening. Once an extremely habituated chawl of Santa Cruz is now believed to be a home for a spirit, too. It is said that a long time ago, an old lady fell into the well and died. Ever since the haunting & sighting of the old lady has been commonly reported in the chawl. The people have seen shadows and heard screams of a woman occasionally at night. Surprisingly, the spirit has not harmed anyone yet but people out of fright do not roam out of their houses after the sunsets.
